TexTerra completed Construction Materials Testing services on this $125 million Dallas Love Field Runway project consisting of reconstructing the airport’s main commercial runway. At 8,800 feet, Runway 13R-31L is Dallas Love Field’s longest runway. The runway was originally constructed in the 1960’s, with a Portland Cement Concrete overlay performed in 1990. The overlay performed beyond its effective design life. Additionally, changes in airport fleet mix and pavement design methodology since 1990 warranted the reconstruction of the runway to meet FAA runway and taxiway design criteria while enhancing airfield safety and improving airfield efficiencies. Portions of adjoining Taxiway C and the vehicle service road were rebuilt as well.

TexTerra staffed up to 16 technicians to meet Flatiron’s 24/7 schedule for the project. The bulk of the quality control testing comprised in-place density testing of the subgrade, concrete compressive and flexural strength testing, daily sieve analysis of flex base, and miscellaneous laboratory testing. TexTerra also provided early concrete compressive strength testing to allow further construction activities expediting the construction schedule.
